The son of the first Lutheran Hour speaker congratulated members of the International Lutheran Laymen’s League, Michigan District, on 100 years of Lutheran Hour Ministries and 75 years of the district.

Dr. Paul Maier, a former LCMS vice president and son of Dr. Walter A. Maier, who launched the Lutheran Hour in 1930, was the featured speaker at the 100th anniversary banquet on April 29.

Dr. Maier reminisced that the International Lutheran Laymen’s League started in 1917 to help get the LCMS out of financial debut, and has been working with Synod in the last 100 years in various ways to spread the Gospel to all countries and to all nations.

The banquet was conducted at Zehnders Splash Village and Water Park the evening of the convention sessions which were at St. Lorenz Lutheran School, Frankenmuth.

The presenter for the convention session was Frankenmuth native Mark Eischer, who is the announcer and senior producer of the world’s longest-running Christian radio broadcaster, the Lutheran Hour.

At the banquet, while introducing Dr. Maier, Eischer noted that Maier’s book on his father “A Man Spoke, a World Listened,” is among the most detailed looks at how The Lutheran Hour was created and became among the world’s most effective outreach ministries.

Dr. Maier, while noting how things have changed in the past 100 years, encouraged LLLers, as an auxiliary of the LCMS, to continue to spread the Good News around the world to all people. He commended LLLers for how they have adjusted to the changing world to bring Christ to the lost in their neighborhoods, across Michigan, throughout the United States and Canada and North American and across the world.

It’s estimated LLL programs connect with 51 million people each week across the world.

The convention raised about $2,000 for LHM Russian Ministry. The 2018 convention banquet was set for April 28, 2018 at Zehender’s Restaurant in Frankenmuth. Under a convention vote, first-time attendees at the 2018 LLL banquet, provided they are members of an LCMS church, will be invited to attend for free.

This year’s Online Mission Trip (OMT) by Lutheran Hour Ministries traveled to Latvia during the week of January 26 – 29, 2015 from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. (central standard time). LHM was blessed to partner with school children across North America as they witness first-hand how their mission dollars help Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) spread the Good news of salvation through Jesus Christ to the people of Latvia.

Simulating LHM International Volunteer Trips, Online Mission Trips take the student to the mission field via several types of media. Videoconferencing makes it possible for live presentations from LHM International Headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri and LHM – Latvia ministry center in the capital city of Riga. Short pre-recorded videos will engage the senses and peak curiosity while the students gain in-sight into ministry in a different part of the world.

School’s designated chapel offerings will go directly to LHM–Latvia to support Vacation Bible School activities and Holistic Ministry outreach efforts.

May God bless you, your faculty, your students and their families as you are agents for “Bringing Christ to the Nations – and the Nations to the Church.”

Dave Marasus of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lakeview reports that his church has started a Men’s Bible Class on the second Saturday of every month, using the LLL Men’s Network Materials – Studying Mormonism.

“Additionally we will celebrate Lutheran Hour Sunday at Holy Trinity sometime in May or June after all the “sun-birds” have returned from the warmer climates,” Marasus said.

(Lutheran Hour Ministries Sunday is officially Feb. 1 but churches can celebrate it anytime at their convenience.)

“A special LLL work-project is planned for April 18, in conjunction with our spring convention, involving all attendees at the convention and members of Holy Trinity,” Marasus said. “This joint project will promote a joint fellowship of our Lutheran Layman’s League and the members of our Lutheran church at large. The project will involve painting the church social hall, using the labor of our good folks of the “League” and members of Holy Trinity, and materials (Paint) provided by Thrivent. We look forward to a successful resolve to this endeavor.”

“Promoting our Spring Convention in April, and also our Lutheran Layman’s League Retreat in September (at Arcadia) is always at our fingertips to promote special activities to our church at large motivated by the LLL to ‘Bring Christ to the Nations, and the Nations to the Church.'”
