The health of your congregation.

That was the theme of a special presentation made by Rev. Todd Jones, assistant to the president for mission education and new starts advancement for the Michigan District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

Rev. Jones made the presentation at the 76th Michigan District Lutheran Laymen’s League convention on April 28 at St. Lorenz Lutheran School in Frankenmuth.

During his presentation, Rev. Jones went over the various factors that help define a congregation’s health. He covered three questions that define a church’s mission statement. He then went over strategy and posed various questions that need to be answered. He discussed various elements involved in engaging people such as worship, relationships, care and meeting family needs, education, preaching, well-kept facilities and financial stability.

He then reviewed methods for equipping members with the knowledge, skills and values that will allow them to experience fulfillment in their lives of sacrificial services.

He encouraged convention attendees to go to www.michigandistrict.org to research resource materials for mission. Bruce Sutherland and Lutheran Hour ministries reminded participants to go to lhm.org to find more materials for church growth.

The convention was highlighted with the election of Chuck Bennett of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Haslett as the LLL district’s new president. Randy Larson of Our Savior in Lansing was elected district secretary.
