This year’s Lutheran Laymen’s League Arcadia retreat attendance was 111 men ranging from 19 to 91. This is truly a multi-generational retreat, a retreat spokesman sald. Weather was outstanding. The retreat committee has received feedback of a great time and greatly value of the contributions of our chaplains and speaker to those in attendance. This was Dr. Dale Meyer’s 6th time as speaker at this retreat. He was speaker of the 1990, 1994, 1999, 2004, and 2015 retreats. He is now retired and carries titles of president emeritus and professor emeritus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis and speaker emeritus of The Lutheran Hour radio program. Chaplains were Pastor Tyler Cronkright, associate pastor St. Stephen Lutheran Church and Family of God in Southwest, Detroit, and Pastor Dean Davenport, senior pastor of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Livonia, and also LCMS district vice president.
Next year’s retreat, the 78th addition, will feature Rev. Dr. Roosevelt Gray Jr., Director of LCMS Black Ministry within the LCMS Office of National Mission. Chaplains will be Rev. Christopher R. Bodley, Bethany Lutheran Church, Detroit, MI and Rev. Dietrick Gladden, Mount Calvary & Charity Lutheran Churches, Detroit, MI. Both Pastor Bodley & Gladden also service our district are A2E (Acts 2 Enterprise) LCMS MI District Missionary at Large to Detroit. Next year’s retreat will take place September 5-8, 2024 at Camp Arcaida.
