Celebrate Lutheran Hour Ministries Sunday with us on February 1, 2015-or any Sunday of your choice. You’ll learn about LHM’s long and respected history of providing outreach tools to congregations that work in concert with its Gospel proclamation activities. This foundation serves as the catalyst for partnering with the laity to embolden them to be missionaries in their own communities and around the world.

Rev. Gregory is the current speaker and encourage all LCMS Michigan District congregations to celebrate LHM Sunday on Feb. 1 or any Sunday of your choice.

It is God’s mission to rescue people who have become separated from Him, restore relationships with them and renew them for holy living and service to others. His message is simple: rescue, restoration and renewal are found only in Jesus.

In a world now characterized by dizzying change, God has called the Church to join Him in His mission and challenged it to make His message of hope known in today’s post-Christian culture.

At Lutheran Hour Ministries, we want to be your partner in calling back the lost and hurting—back to the Church; back to forgiveness and grace; back to God and His Word.

We have made it our mission to encourage and support you as you respond to God’s call to action. While you may know us because of our flagship radio ministry, The Lutheran Hour, we invite you to take advantage of everything that Lutheran Hour Ministries offers for discipleship and outreach: evangelism training events and resources; opportunities for hands-on international outreach; resource media and materials for men’s ministry; mission resources for children and schools; and much more.

Here are just a few results of how the Lord blesses Lutheran Hour Ministries with opportunities to plant the Gospel seed in exciting ways around the world:

More than 1 million Gospel touches in the United States each week

More than 800,000 listeners to The Lutheran Hour each week

More than 350,000 individuals responded last year to the culturally relevant outreach efforts of LHM’sInternational Ministry Centers;

More than 54,000 individuals were referred last year to local congregations internationally for spiritual growth and nurturing;

More than 11,000 individuals each year continue to attend church events several times following their referral from an LHM International Ministry Center.

Around 165,000 individuals are currently enrolled in Bible Correspondence Courses offered by LHM’sInternational Ministry Centers;

More than 25,000 individuals have been trained to witness through MISSION U and its predecessor program, Equipping to Share;

More than 13,000 individuals are registered for the Men’s NetWork; and individuals from nearly 4,000 congregations of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and Lutheran Church—Canada are registered for the Men’s NetWork.

Rescue. Restoration. Renewal: His mission for the Church; His mission for us; our message to the world. Together, by the power of God’s Holy Spirit, we can live that message and spread it to our communities and beyond.

Dave Marasus of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lakeview reports that his church has started a Men’s Bible Class on the second Saturday of every month, using the LLL Men’s Network Materials – Studying Mormonism.

“Additionally we will celebrate Lutheran Hour Sunday at Holy Trinity sometime in May or June after all the “sun-birds” have returned from the warmer climates,” Marasus said.

(Lutheran Hour Ministries Sunday is officially Feb. 1 but churches can celebrate it anytime at their convenience.)

“A special LLL work-project is planned for April 18, in conjunction with our spring convention, involving all attendees at the convention and members of Holy Trinity,” Marasus said. “This joint project will promote a joint fellowship of our Lutheran Layman’s League and the members of our Lutheran church at large. The project will involve painting the church social hall, using the labor of our good folks of the “League” and members of Holy Trinity, and materials (Paint) provided by Thrivent. We look forward to a successful resolve to this endeavor.”

“Promoting our Spring Convention in April, and also our Lutheran Layman’s League Retreat in September (at Arcadia) is always at our fingertips to promote special activities to our church at large motivated by the LLL to ‘Bring Christ to the Nations, and the Nations to the Church.'”

Richard Ziebart of the Southwest Zone in the Michigan LLL District gave this recent report on activity in his zone.

We are meeting on the third Saturday at 7:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran in St. Joseph during the Months of October – April for breakfast and Men’s Network Bible Studies and inviting our Zone members. Our present topic is “NOAH” and our attendance varies between 15-30 men. We have some non- Lutherans also join us. Participation in the subject matter is very good.

Another item I consider very worthwhile is the “Project Connect Booklet Ministry. I have done a study of two important parts of the Ministry. One is, what do people want the most help ,or have a need to know and also how can we share the booklets with the most people? We have found that the Grocery store is the place where most people use the booklets. The usage is almost 5 to I at the store as in Church. The subject matter or topics are the same at both places. The other study deals with which are the most “POPULAR”. The top 10 in their order are: #1. Prayer, #2 Talking With God, #3 Where’s God in all This, #4 Get A Grip, #5 The Bible, #6 The Truth About Angels, #7 Reasons to Believe, #8 Dealing with Depression, #9 Why do Bad Things Happen?, #10 No Need to Fear. Our total usage this year is over 1100 booklets.

We also have Breakfast Bible Study at Christ Lutheran on the first and third Monday each month. Jerry Malinasky has the Library of all the Men’s Network DVD’s and does a great job of keeping us organized. We have just started the “Mormons” study.

Howard is currently district vice president while Jean is treasurer. They recall getting involved in the league seven years ago when he was Region 5 governor. Weldon Schwiebert asked Howard to be an LLL ambassador. The Wellhousens along with Miller, who is a district board member, are also members of Zone 3, which basically covers the Monroe area. Howard Wellhousen has served as zone president.

Among the activities of the Monroe zone has been sponsoring a booth at the Monroe County Fair.

“We give away some good prizes at the booth,” said Howard, adding that he especially enjoys the “connection the league has within the congregations and the fellowship we’ve built. Ever since we’ve been with the organization, we’ve been at the conventions.”

Miller, a member of Grace Lutheran in Monroe, is going on 84. “When I came home from the service, I joined our men’s club in 1948. It’s still going. We have a once-a-month meeting and meet for support. We have 12 to 15 people attend each week”

Among the club projects has been making wooden crosses for Lent.

Miller is treasurer for Zone 3 and the zone’s representative on the district board. He has also served as district treasurer.
