The 74th annual Arcadia LLL Men’s Retreat on the shores of Lake Michigan at Camp Arcadia, is being held on Thursday, Sept. 5-8.  We are blessed to have as our featured Speaker Rev. Gregory Seltz, Speaker Emeritus of the Lutheran Hour broadcasts and currently Executive Director of the Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty located in Washington, D. C..  Rev. Seltz is the LCMS representative in our nation’s capital on the subject of the ongoing battle for religious freedom in our country.  He will be speaking over the weekend Retreat on the topic of “Putting our temporal Liberties to work, for our Eternal Liberty in Christ.

Dr. Meyer also the former Lutheran Hour speaker, has made several appearances at the LLL Arcadia Retreat.

Chaplains for the retreat were Rev. Michael Goers of  St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Spring Lake and Rev. Daniel Grams of Ascension of Christ Lutheran Church, in Beverly Hills.

Dr. Meyer provided two lectures on Sept. 11, one on Sept. 12 and then was the speaker of the retreat’s worship service on Sunday. The Arcadia Retreat Chorus performed at the retreat, led by minister of music, Dave Marasus of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lakeview.

A golf outing, euchre tournament, talent show and Bible discussion groups were featured at the retreat. Tom Anderson was chairman of the retreat committee while Alfred Renard was vice chairman.

Next year’s 71st annual retreat will feature Lutheran Hour emeritus speaker Rev. Kenneth Klaus.

It’s the 70th annual retreat, set for Sept 10-13. Arcadia music director David Marasus made this announcement at the LLL’s Michigan District convention April 18 at Maxfield’s Restaurant in Edmore.

Dr. Dale Meyer, president of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and former Lutheran Hour speaker, will be the retreat presenter.

The annual golf outing is set for Sept. 11 with the softball game and talent show on Sept. 12 and worship service on Sept. 13.

Close to 200 laymen attended the event which featured a variety of spiritual and social experiences.

The speaker/lecturer was the Rev. Dr. Thomas R. Ahlersmeyer, senior pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School in Fort Wayne, Ind., and former president of Concordia University in Ann Arbor. He spoke on the theme of “We are Sent,” from John 20:21: “Jesus said to them, peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, even so I am sending you.”

Chaplains were Rev. David Schmidt from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak and Rev. Trevor Sutton, associate pastor at St Luke Lutheran Church in Haslett.

Plans are already being made for the 70^th annual retreat Sept. 10-13. The speaker/lecturer will be Dr. Dale Meyer, president of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and former Lutheran Hour speaker.

The retreat will feature Rev. Dr. Thomas R. Ahlersmeyer as speaker and lecturer. He is the former president of Concordia University in Ann Arbor. He currently serves as senior pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School in Fort Wayne, Ind.

All laymen are welcome to attend. Membership with Lutheran Hour Ministries is not necessary, but encouraged.

The retreat schedule includes a variety of spiritual and social experiences. Days include Matins and Vespers services. The days have invigorating lectures and activities that bring God closer to the retreater. The retreat closes with a spirited Sunday worship service and farewell brunch.

Chaplains are Rev. David Schmidt, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak, and Rev. Trevor Sutton, assistant pastor at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Haslett.

Guests may register at the Camp Office beginning at 5 p.m. on Sept. 4. Reservations for the Friday golf outing will be taken at this time. Evening vespers are set for 10 p.m. in the Wigwam.

Friday will feature the 8 a.m. golf outing. Lectures are set for the afternoon and evening.

Saturday evening leads into the final lecture, discussions groups, annual softball game, memorial service, talent night and afterglow.

The worship service at 8 a.m. is featured on Sunday followed by a brunch and the farewells for this year’s retreat.
