LHM outreach seminar in Lansing attracts 102 attendees

More than 100 attendees participated in the 2015 Outreach Seminar, Bringing Christ to Your Neighborhood on Oct. 10 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lansing.

The seminar was sponsored by the Michigan District of Lutheran Hour Ministries and directed by staff member Bruce Sutherland, who has trained hundreds of laypeople in witnessing to their faith and regularly leads evangelism teams into public places to tell others about Jesus.

He informed the attendees that he is interested in increasing others; concern for the eternal destiny of their neighbors. At LHM he is responsible for communicating the organization’s outreach ministry resources and programs to congregations and professional church workers.

Sutherland emphasized the importance of story telling and culture of outreach and pointed out that growing churches were excited about their outreach efforts and made sure every time the church knew what was going on.

How to “Maximize Your Witnessing” was covered along with the top area of How Well is your church connecting? Sutherland pointed out that outreach focused churches have simple, deliberate and highly relational approach to connect with people outside their church facility. Small teams within the congregation use their spiritual gifts, interests and abilities in activities designed to connect everyone to the Word of God through relationships. The culture with those churches reflected Colossians 4:5: “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders, make the most of every opportunity.”
